Athlete Eligibility

In order to be eligible for participation in Special Olympics, an individual with an intellectual disability must agree to observe and abide by the SOO Athlete Code of Conduct.

Individuals of all ages and all abilities can train and compete in Special Olympics.  Athletes train with and compete against athletes of similar ability level.

How To Register As An Athlete

SOO - Stratford & Area holds two registration sessions yearly:  one in April (for Summer sports) and one in September (for Winter/Spring sports).

Sports currently offered by sport season

Summer:  golf, soccer, softball (C, D), t-ball and track & field

Winter/Spring:  basketball (C,D), 5-pin bowling, curling, floor hockey and swimming

The base registration fee per athlete per sport season ($25 for Summer; $35 for Winter/Spring) includes one sport.   Each additional sport (within that sport season) is an additional $5.   Additional surcharges, as applicable, are included in the sport description for specific sports.   Please refer to the "Sports" section of this site for information on the day, time and location for each sport.

If you are a RETURNING athlete, please check the “Events” page (calendar) for the dates and locations of registration sessions for the applicable sport season.

If you are a NEW athlete, you must be registered with both SOO and SOO - Stratford & Area before you will be eligible to participate in any SOO - Stratford & Area sport programs. You may register in one of two ways: On-line (using the “Athlete & Volunteer Registration” button) or by completing hard copies of the SOO Athlete Registration Form and the SOO Athlete Information and Medical Form. These can be found on the “Forms” page of this web site.
